The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy highlighted the strategic role of sports tourism (sport tourism) as an effective instrument in boosting tourism promotion while driving the grassroots economy. With its ability to efficiently attract large crowds, this activity has proven capable of reviving the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in related destinations.

Adyatama Tourism and Creative Economy Expert, Vinsensius Jemadu, explained that sport tourism has now transformed into an integral part of the post-pandemic public lifestyle. This phenomenon is reflected in the increased public participation in various fitness events, which directly contributes to the movement of domestic tourists between regions.

Ministry data recorded a significant shift in the tourism product portfolio. While cultural and natural tourism previously dominated, man-made tourism products such as sport tourism and wellness tourism have now experienced a surge in contribution by up to 20 percent. This increase is considered highly positive as it is directly proportional to greater foreign exchange potential.

Vinsensius added that this positive trend is not limited to the national scale but is also visible in the behavioral changes of the younger generation. Today, millennials and Gen Z tend to choose to be actively involved in sporting events like running, rather than just spending time in commercial entertainment venues. This awareness of the importance of health has become a strong asset for Indonesia in developing a sustainable sports tourism ecosystem across all provinces.
