The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has officially issued a strict warning for the public and tourists to stay away from the area around Mount Anak Krakatau. This activity ban covers a three-kilometer radius from the crater center, following the elevation of the volcano's status in the Sunda Strait to Level III (Alert).
The decision to raise the status was established by the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on July 2, 2026. Authorities emphasized the need for high vigilance regarding potential hazards that could arise at any time, such as pyroclastic flows, lava flows, incandescent rock projections, and heavy ashfall around the affected area.
In response to circulating video footage on social media depicting a massive eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau, the Geological Agency emphasized that the content is false information or a hoax. Technical verification results show that the volcano's activity is currently controlled, with a record of two small-scale eruptions on July 2 and 3 that only produced ash columns up to 200 meters high.
Although the volcano's status has been raised, maritime transport activities along the ferry route from Banten to Lampung are confirmed to be operating normally. This is because the shipping route lies outside the designated danger zone established by the government.
The public is urged to remain calm and not be provoked by circulating misinformation. All parties are asked to refer only to official information channels, such as the official websites of the Geological Agency, PVMBG, and the MAGMA Indonesia application for the latest data developments regarding Mount Anak Krakatau's volcanic activity.
