Public sentiment regarding the direction of national politics under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto shows a downward trend. Based on the latest findings from the survey institute Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC), as many as 42.8 percent of respondents assess current political conditions in the country as bad or very bad.
SMRC Executive Director, Deni Irvani, revealed that these results indicate a dominance of skeptical views from the public. The number of citizens who view the current political situation negatively is recorded at almost three times higher than those who give a positive assessment.
This decline in confidence has been consistent over the last three survey periods. In November 2025, the share of the public assessing national political conditions as good stood at 35.8 percent. However, this figure continued to decline to 27.1 percent in March 2026, and plunged again to reach 13.5 percent in the July 2026 survey period.
According to Deni, this dynamic shows a fairly drastic reversal of perception among the public. This downward trend is also considered to be in line with the level of public satisfaction with government performance in general, as well as the national economic situation currently being faced.
This public opinion survey was conducted between July 5 and 19, 2026. Involving 749 eligible voters selected using a random sampling method, data collection was carried out through a combination of telephone and face-to-face interviews. The margin of error for this research is estimated at approximately plus or minus 3.7 percent.
