This tourist spot offers a panoramic view of Mount Merapi from a relatively close distance. The lush, green environment surrounded by dense trees makes it an ideal location to unwind from the hustle and bustle of city life.
To cater to visitors' needs, the management has provided an observation deck and a wooden bridge, which have become favorite spots for photography enthusiasts. In addition, the open area surrounding the park is often used by families for picnics or simply relaxing while enjoying the fresh mountain air.
For tourists seeking a more intimate experience with nature, a camping ground is also available. This facility allows visitors to spend the night on the slopes of Merapi and watch the sunrise against the backdrop of the iconic mountain. The camping fee set by management is quite affordable, ranging from IDR 15,000 to IDR 25,000 per person.
Interestingly, Tankaman Natural Park operates on a voluntary donation system for admission, making it one of the most budget-friendly tourist destinations in the Sleman area. Visitors only need to pay for vehicle parking, which is IDR 2,000 for motorcycles and IDR 5,000 for cars.
The destination is open daily from 08:00 to 16:00 WIB, though it is closed on Tuesdays for routine maintenance. Located about 25 kilometers from central Yogyakarta, it can be reached in approximately 50 minutes. Tourists are advised to ensure their vehicles are in prime condition due to the steep, mountainous terrain, and to practice environmental conservation during their visit.
