PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNIVITY, a space connectivity infrastructure provider. This strategic step was taken as a joint effort to explore the potential of future satellite technologies to meet the increasingly crucial telecommunication needs in the country.
This collaboration focuses on studying the utilization of Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite architectures and the development of Direct-to-Device services. Both parties plan to integrate UNIVITY's space network capabilities with domestic ground station infrastructure managed by Telkomsat, ensuring that national data and network sovereignty remain protected.
Telkomsat's Development Director, Anggoro K. Widiawan, stated that this partnership is a progressive step toward expanding the reach of digital services, especially for communities in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions. This innovation is expected to deliver more adaptive and resilient connectivity through a multi-orbit hybrid system.
On the other hand, UNIVITY's Founder and CEO, Charles Delfieux, views Indonesia as a dynamic connectivity market with great potential for the convergence of terrestrial and space networks. Through VLEO technology integrated with the 5G spectrum, this collaboration is projected to deliver high-speed, low-latency internet services to support existing telecommunications infrastructure.
The integration of this technology will not only target commercial needs but is also aimed at strengthening national security and public sector applications. This initiative is proof of Telkomsat's commitment to transforming Indonesia's satellite ecosystem to be more relevant to future global technological developments.
