The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has officially opened the 2026 Kapolri Cup badminton tournament, running from July 27 to August 1, 2026, in Jakarta. This sporting event, held to commemorate the 80th Bhayangkara Day (Police Day), carries a major mission to scout talented young athletes while strengthening inclusivity in the national sports arena.
This national-scale tournament is being held at three different venues in Jakarta: the Jakarta State University (UNJ) Sports Hall, the Duren Sawit Sports Hall, and the Pondok Bambu District Sports Hall. Thousands of participants from various age groups and backgrounds are set to compete fiercely for the championship titles.
The Head of the Public Relations and Documentation Section for the 2026 Kapolri Cup Badminton, Police Inspector General Dr. Ahmad Ramadhan, stated that this competition is designed not just as a showcase of talent, but as a platform for sustainable athlete development. Through this event, Polri aims to instill the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and togetherness in society.
To ensure the success of this event, Polri has partnered with the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) and the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPCI). This strategic collaboration has produced various match categories, ranging from U-15, U-17, and U-19 age groups, a special internal category for Polri members, to categories for athletes with disabilities.
The inclusion of the disability category is the main highlight of this edition of the Kapolri Cup. A total of 70 athletes from 10 provinces will compete in several classification categories, including wheelchair, standing lower, standing upper, and short stature. The Secretary-General of NPCI, Ukun Rukaendi, appreciated the Police's step in providing space for paralympic athletes in a national police tournament for the first time.
On the other hand, the Secretary-General of PBSI, Ricky Soebagdja, welcomed this event as a vital instrument in the regeneration of national badminton athletes. The knockout-system competition is expected to filter potential young talent before they step up to the international level. In addition to trophies and medals, the winners will also receive development funds.
