Besan Village, located in Dawan District, Klungkung Regency, officially introduced the 'Nyegara Gunung Experience' concept as a flagship innovation in the 2026 Bali Swacita Nugraha competition organized by Bali Province. This approach emphasizes traditional Balinese philosophy, viewing the harmonious relationship between mountains and the sea as the main foundation for sustainable tourism management.
The Segara-Gunung philosophy is applied by managing ecosystems holistically, from upstream to downstream. Mountainous areas rich in water resources and biodiversity are seen as vital supporters for the sustainability of coastal areas. Conversely, preserving marine ecosystems that support the fisheries sector and marine tourism is also a primary focus. The Besan Village Government believes that maintaining the balance between these two realms is key to preventing long-term environmental degradation.
The Regent of Klungkung, I Made Satria, welcomed the initiative positively during the visit of the field evaluation team at TPST3R Besan Village on Wednesday (8/7/2026). According to him, the concept offered by Besan Village aligns seamlessly with the Klungkung Regency Government's vision to create quality, adaptive, and local wisdom-based tourism. He hopes this innovation can serve as a role model for other regions in Bali in integrating the economy with nature conservation.
Head of the Evaluation Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Wayan Supartha, M.S., also expressed deep appreciation for this breakthrough. He assessed that Besan Village's innovation is not merely a tourism marketing strategy, but a concrete step in revitalizing Balinese cosmology into modern tourism operations. The integration of traditional values is deemed capable of delivering stable economic impacts while restoring ecological balance.
Meanwhile, the Head (Perbekel) of Besan Village, Ketut Yasa, emphasized that the village's participation in this event aims strategically to implement the innovations already pioneered. Through this concept, Besan Village is committed to ensuring that tourism development proceeds in harmony with environmental conservation efforts while benefiting the local community's welfare.
