The global fitness event, Hyrox, is currently in the spotlight among healthy lifestyle enthusiasts in Indonesia. Its debut in Jakarta on June 27-28, 2026, set an impressive record with over 11,000 participants, making it the event with the highest participation in the Asia-Pacific region. This massive enthusiasm involved various groups, from fitness communities to local celebrities.

Behind the excitement, Hyrox sparked debate on social media, with netizens dubbing it a "fancy version of a laborer's sport". This nickname arose because the series of exercises involves intensive physical activities, such as pushing and pulling weights (sled push/pull), carrying sandbags, and jumping. Technically, however, Hyrox is a competition combining an eight-kilometer run with eight stations of structured functional workouts.

Sports medicine specialist, Dr. Andhika Raspati, SpKO, clarified this perception. According to him, even though the movements in Hyrox resemble everyday physical activities, the intensity and goals of the training are far more structured. "Hyrox is hybrid, meaning that in a single training session, a person can gain two benefits simultaneously: increased cardio-respiratory capacity and muscle strengthening (strength training)," he explained.

The popularity of Hyrox reflects a lifestyle shift among urban communities who are now focusing more on physical performance and endurance. Nonetheless, experts warn against joining the phenomenon merely due to FOMO (fear of missing out). Physical readiness, proper movement techniques, and recovery patterns are key to achieving optimal health benefits without the risk of injury.

For those wishing to try this challenge, it is advised not to rush. Building stamina gradually through an appropriate training program, supported by proper nutrition and rest, is a crucial step. Hyrox is not just a passing trend, but a long-term commitment to maintaining physical fitness amidst the demands of a modern lifestyle.
