The 25th Five Mountains Festival (Festival Lima Gunung XXV) officially took place in Warangan Hamlet, Muneng Warangan Village, Magelang Regency, from July 10 to 12, 2026. Marking the quarter-century celebration of the farmer-artist community, the event was centered on the slopes of Mount Merbabu, presenting artistic collaborations involving at least 85 art groups from various regions across Indonesia.
A total of 1,274 personnel from the Five Mountains Community and neighboring art community networks took part in this event. The annual agenda presented a broad spectrum of works, ranging from traditional dance, music, theater, poetry readings, to fine art exhibitions. Beyond performances, the committee also scheduled environmental actions through tree planting, cultural parades, symposiums, and the presentation of the Lima Gunung Award.
Cultural observer Bre Redana, a figure with emotional and historical ties to community founder Sutanto Mendut, highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding the festival's organization. Despite jokes circulating on social media regarding the event's cancellation, the Five Mountains Festival remains a powerful cultural magnet for art activists from the five main mountains in Magelang: Merapi, Merbabu, Andong, Sumbing, and Menoreh.
The humorous character brought to this year's 25th Five Mountains Festival is also reflected in the community's visual identity, including on the festival's official T-shirt design featuring comical figures. This representation serves as a symbol of warmth and the spirit of simplicity that has been the soul of the Five Mountains Community's long journey in preserving rural traditions.
