Efforts to tackle stunting in Bojonegoro Regency have entered a new chapter through a strategic collaboration between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) and the local government. Through a seminar titled "Building a Superior Generation Starting from the Family with Animal Protein Consumption", both parties reaffirmed their commitment to uniting the roles of academia and government agencies in creating a future generation free from chronic nutritional issues.
The Dean of FKH UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Lilik Maslachah, drh., M.Kes., emphasized that this program is a concrete realization of the Tri Dharma (Three Pillars) of higher education. The faculty does not only focus on assisting duck farmers by strengthening production management and product downstreaming, but also conducts direct health interventions. Through multidisciplinary involvement, the team from UNAIR has conducted anthropometric screening in eight elementary schools to obtain accurate data that will later serve as the foundation for health policies in Bojonegoro.
The Bojonegoro Regency Government welcomed this initiative. The Chairperson of the PKK Mobilization Team and Chairperson of the Posyandu Advisory Board, Dr. Hj. Sri Budi Cantika Yuli, highlighted the importance of optimizing local livestock potential as an affordable source of animal protein for the community. According to her, the education provided by experts from UNAIR is an important catalyst for increasing family consumption patterns based on animal protein.
In line with this, the Livestock and Fisheries Department of Bojonegoro Regency is also committed to ensuring the availability of safe and quality food of animal origin. This cross-sector synergy is expected to not only stop at education but also create a sustainable ecosystem for stunting prevention. This data-driven and community empowerment-based collaboration model is hoped to serve as a reference for other regions in efforts to create a superior and highly competitive Indonesian generation.
