The Merah Putih Village Cooperative (KKMP) of Cangakan, Karanganyar Regency, has officially taken a business diversification step by launching a coffee shop unit named Kopi Desa Merah Putih, abbreviated as Kadempe. This initiative, inaugurated on Wednesday (8/7/2026), aims to attract the interest of the younger generation or Generation Z while creating a new source of income for cooperative members.

The Chairman of KKMP Cangakan, Sigit Danang Jaya, revealed that the selection of the culinary sector, specifically a coffee shop, was based on market research regarding youth lifestyle trends. According to him, the culture of hanging out at coffee shops has become a dominant social space, making it necessary for the cooperative to be present within this trend to remain relevant with the times.

More than just a coffee business, this business unit is designed as a platform for a local product ecosystem. The cooperative is committed to marketing various products made by its members, such as homemade soap, so that economic circulation can be centered at the village level. With a base of around 3,000 households in Cangakan, KKMP is optimistic that economic independence can be achieved through synergy among members.

The development strategy for Kadempe does not stop at one location. Sigit emphasized that they are opening up partnership or franchise opportunities for other cooperatives in different regions that wish to adopt a similar business model. The plan is to soon build a permanent physical outlet in the cooperative area to facilitate visitors' access to shopping while enjoying coffee.

This progressive step received positive support from the Acting Chairman of the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin) of Karanganyar Regency, Muhammad Maksum. He views this breakthrough as a form of cooperative creativity in responding to market dynamics. Maksum hopes that the presence of Kadempe will change the stigma of cooperatives, which have long been perceived as rigid and solely focused on savings and loans activities, transforming them into creative and inclusive business entities for the younger generation.
