Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, directly inspected the newest facilities at RSU Bunda Padang on Friday (3/7/2026). The visit focused on the operation of robotic surgery technology, recorded as the first robot-assisted surgical system in the West Sumatra region.
On that occasion, Mahyeldi appreciated this medical breakthrough as a crucial step in the transformation of local healthcare services. According to him, robotic surgery technology offers high precision capable of minimizing medical risk and accelerating patient recovery compared to conventional methods.
Furthermore, the Governor emphasized that the presence of this advanced facility provides a strategic alternative for the community, eliminating the need to seek medical treatment abroad or in other provinces. This innovation is considered proof that the quality of healthcare services in West Sumatra can now compete at an international level.
Director of RSU Bunda Padang, dr. Helgawati, explained that the new facility includes a state-of-the-art robotic operating room, an ICU room equipped with 12 ventilators, and an inpatient building designed to accommodate up to 170 beds in the future. This development is expected to meet the public's need for comprehensive medical services.
President Commissioner of PT Bundamedik Tbk, Dr. dr. Ivan Rizal Sini, added that the implementation of this technology is part of a long-term strategy to expand access to minimally invasive surgery. Moving forward, this infrastructure also opens up significant opportunities for the application of remote surgery or telerobotic surgery, positioning RSU Bunda Padang as one of the modern medical referral centers on the island of Sumatra.
