The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Management (TNBTS) has issued a total closure policy for all hiking activities on Mount Semeru. This step was taken as a form of respect for the 2026 Hari Raya Karo celebration organized by the local indigenous community.
Based on official announcement letter number PG.16/T.8/TU/HMS.01.08/B/07/2026, the hiking area will be completely clear of hikers from Friday, August 7, to Tuesday, August 18, 2026. This decision is a follow-up to a request from the Ranupani Village Government, Lumajang Regency, to preserve the solemnity of the traditional rituals.
Head of TNBTS Management, Rudijanta Tjahjah Nugraha, emphasized that hikers must complete all activities and descend from the mountain no later than August 7, 2026, at 16:00 WIB. For prospective hikers whose scheduled visit coincides with the closure period, the management provides a rescheduling option through the designated system.
Although the main hiking trail is closed, TNBTS confirmed that the tourist area and campsite at Ranu Regulo remain accessible to the public. Hiking activities on the 3,676-meter-high mountain are scheduled to reopen normally on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
