Efforts to tackle the plastic waste problem have entered a new chapter in Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Through the Pilah Berkah Community Self-Help Group (KSM), pyrolysis technology innovation is being implemented as a concrete solution to convert plastic waste that has been polluting the environment into valuable fuel oil.

This strategic project is the result of a collaboration between the Bantul Regency Government, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the Pertamina Foundation. Relying on pyrolysis technology, the machine can process around 50 kilograms of plastic waste daily through an oxygen-free heating process, which is then converted into alternative energy.

The results of this processing are quite promising, with the pyrolysis machine capable of producing about 48 liters of diesel-type fuel, often referred to as Petasol. Before being distributed or used, the produced liquid is filtered first to ensure proper quality and operational standards for the machines that will use it.

The implementation of this technology is expected to have a double impact: reducing the burden of plastic waste entering landfills while providing an alternative energy source for the needs of the local community. This step serves as a model for circular waste management that is expected to be replicated in various other regions in Indonesia.
