In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, the Pelalawan Plantation Technology Institute of Indonesia (ITP2I) held the 3rd Scientific Gathering at the Pelalawan Regent's Office Auditorium. Carrying the theme of smart and sustainable technology, this international forum brought together collaborative insights from experts hailing from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Nigeria. Discussions focused on responding to global market demands that increasingly prioritize transparency and environmentally friendly operational standards as key requirements for international trade.
Rector of ITP2I, Prof. Tengku Dahril, emphasized that the role of educational institutions is crucial in strengthening the competitiveness of national flagship commodities. The institution is currently focusing on enhancing teaching staff qualifications to doctoral levels to produce applied research that can be directly implemented by farmers and plantation industry stakeholders in the field.
The Pelalawan Regency Government welcomed the initiative, given the region's strong economic reliance on the palm oil sector. The integration of scientific findings in laboratories with cultivation practices in plantations is seen as a key factor in cutting production costs and dispelling international market doubts regarding environmental sustainability issues.
The downstreaming of palm oil derivative products was a crucial point in the discussion. This step is believed to be capable of boosting domestic added value for the commodity while ensuring the welfare of local farmers is maintained amid volatile global commodity price dynamics.
