BPJS Kesehatan provides flexibility for participants in the Wage-Receiving Worker (PPU) segment to expand their family health insurance coverage. Currently, workers are allowed to register family members beyond the standard quota of five dependents, including a fourth child, parents, and parents-in-law, to receive the same protection.

The Head of Public Relations of BPJS Kesehatan, Rizzky Anugerah, explained that under the normal scheme, a contribution of 5 percent of the worker's income (4 percent paid by the employer and 1 percent deducted from the salary) already covers five dependents: the worker, their spouse, and three children. To add other family members, workers are subject to an additional contribution of 1 percent of their income per person per month.

It should be noted that adding these family members requires the same treatment class rights as the primary participant. In addition, if the family members to be registered were previously registered as independent participants and have contribution arrears, the full payment of all arrears is an absolute requirement before the registration process as an additional dependent can proceed.

To process this registration, workers need to prepare supporting documents, including a copy of the Family Card (Kartu Keluarga), identity documents of the additional family members, and a salary deduction authorization letter submitted to the employer. Furthermore, the calculation of the PPU contribution has a maximum basic salary limit of IDR 12 million, so the 1 percent deduction will not exceed this amount even if the worker's income surpasses the upper limit.

BPJS Kesehatan emphasizes that employers bear full responsibility for facilitating this registration and contribution payment. By ensuring the entire family has access to proper healthcare, it is hoped that the peace of mind and productivity of workers within the company environment can increase significantly.
