Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (Kasal) Admiral Muhammad Ali firmly requested graduates of the Naval Technology College (STTAL) to become pioneers in the development of future defense technologies. The main focus of this development is directed toward the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI), unmanned systems, and cybersecurity to anticipate the increasingly complex dynamics of modern warfare.
During his visit to STTAL Surabaya on Thursday (10/7/2026), Admiral Ali emphasized that as a technology-based higher education institution, STTAL plays a crucial role in producing innovators capable of addressing national maritime strategic needs. According to him, the use of unmanned systems has proven to provide high efficiency and effectiveness across various modern global battlefields.
"The technology we develop is focused on the interests of defense and warfare. Current global trends show that unmanned systems have become an effective operational standard. This is the main focus of our research development moving forward," he explained.
In addition to artificial intelligence and unmanned systems, the Kasal also highlighted the importance of expertise in cyber and hydro-oceanography. Technological mastery in these sectors is seen as vital for Indonesia, which possesses vast territorial waters, thereby requiring capable survey and defense technology to safeguard the archipelago's sea lanes.
