The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has officially established a strategic partnership with the New York University (NYU) School of Professional Studies. This international collaboration was marked by the signing of an agreement by Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir and the Dean of the NYU School of Professional Studies, Angie Kamath, to strengthen sports diplomacy, management education, youth development, and innovative research.
Through this cooperation, high-achieving Indonesian athletes now have a great opportunity to pursue higher education at one of the leading universities in the United States. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir emphasized that strengthening this sports ecosystem is a concrete step in carrying out President Prabowo Subianto's instructions to boost achievements while driving the national economy.
The government is committed to changing the national sports paradigm so that it is not merely oriented toward medal acquisition. Moving forward, the sports sector is directed to become a modern industry capable of attracting investment, creating new jobs, and advancing the sport tourism sector, adopting the success of the sports industry in the United States.
In addition to scholarships for athletes, Kemenpora is also encouraging NYU to explore opening professional study programs in Indonesia, particularly in the field of sports business and management. The presence of this program is considered crucial to producing a new generation of professionals and leaders competent in managing the domestic sports industry independently.
To support this plan, the government is committed to facilitating the entire licensing process and connecting NYU with various domestic strategic partners. This synergy is expected to accelerate knowledge transfer and joint research to improve the quality of Indonesian sports human resources on the global stage.
