The Ministry of Human Rights (KemenHAM) is currently accelerating the completion of the Draft Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on the Assessment of Business Actors' Compliance with Business and Human Rights. This regulation is designed as a vital government instrument to mitigate and minimize the risk of human rights violations in the corporate sector.
Intermediate Legal Officer at the Directorate of Human Rights Compliance, Rudy Susatyo, revealed that Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai has set a target for the legal framework to be enacted in 2026. This step aligns with the directive of President Prabowo Subianto, who has granted principle approval for the draft regulation.
The implementation of this regulation will eventually require business entities to conduct periodic due diligence. In addition, companies will be required to perform self-assessments regarding human rights compliance through an integrated system known as the Business and Human Rights Risk Assessment (PRISMA) application.
The government has prepared a mature transition timeline before this regulation is fully enforced. Following its enactment in 2026, the government will focus on a series of massive socialization efforts with stakeholders throughout 2027.
As a final stage, KemenHAM emphasized that the regulation will strictly and firmly take effect for all large-scale companies in 2028. This policy is expected to elevate business ethics standards in Indonesia in line with the principles of human rights protection.
