The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has firmly stated its commitment to strengthening the national digital talent ecosystem. This strategic step is being taken as part of efforts to enable Indonesia to transform from a mere technology consumer into a primary actor in the creation and development of technology on the international stage.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, during his visit to the Komdigi Center for Human Resources Development and Research (BBPSDMP) in Medan, North Sumatra, emphasized that a nation's superiority now highly depends on the quality of its human resources. According to him, human innovation is a key factor capable of overcoming existing physical infrastructure barriers.
Amid the rapid pace of artificial intelligence (AI) reshaping the global economic landscape, Nezar highlighted the need for a paradigm shift. Indonesia is deemed to need to enter the technology industry value chain by contributing directly to the innovation process, rather than relying solely on digital products developed by external parties.
As a realization of this vision, Kemkomdigi has established close collaboration with various universities through initiatives such as the AI Talent Factory program. This program is designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry needs, ensuring university graduates are well-prepared to face future technological challenges.
More than just technical skills, this talent development also includes a deep understanding of the technological geopolitical landscape, digital economic changes, and global dynamics. With this holistic approach, the government is optimistic that Indonesia can increase its competitiveness and play a more significant role in the global technology ecosystem.
