The Occupational Health and Safety Student Association (HIMAK3) of Teuku Umar University (UTU) initiated a strategic collaboration with PLN Nusantara Power (NP) Generation Unit (UP) Nagan Raya. This cooperation aims to address the clean water crisis affecting the community of Kuala Bubon Village through the implementation of appropriate filtration technology.
The partnership exploration was finalized during a hearing at the Office of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) UTU on Tuesday (14/7/2026). This step is part of the sustainability of the Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program (PPK Ormawa), which focuses on providing basic infrastructure for local residents.
During the meeting, HIMAK3 UTU student representatives, Putri Isyelda Aritonga and Novi Andini, presented the program design to the PLN management. The presentation was accompanied by advising lecturer Dr. Wintah, M.Si., and UTU LPPM Secretary Herri Darsan. Meanwhile, representing PLN were Assistant Manager Business Support Muhammad Khoirul Harahap along with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team.
The solution offered in this hearing is the venturi aerator method. UTU PPK Ormawa advising lecturer, Dr. Wintah, explained that this technology combines the aeration process with filtration using physical filter media such as silica sand, activated carbon, zeolite, magnesium, and palm fiber (ijuk). This method is considered highly applicable and suitable for the needs of Kuala Bubon residents who struggle to obtain clean, consumable water.
This community empowerment-based innovation received a positive response from the management of PLN NP UP Nagan Raya. Muhammad Khoirul Harahap expressed his commitment to study the proposal further as it is deemed to have a tangible social impact and directly address the vital needs of the community around the industrial operational area.
