The sports world of East Kalimantan is preparing to enter a new phase. General Chairman of the Central National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI), Retired Lieutenant General Marciano Norman, is scheduled to visit Samarinda on Saturday (11/7/2026) to officially inaugurate the board of the East Kalimantan Province KONI for the 2026–2030 term.

The confirmation of his attendance was conveyed by the General Chairman of KONI East Kalimantan, H. Anderiy Syachrum, after direct coordination at the Central KONI Secretariat in Jakarta. According to Anderiy, this visit is not merely a ceremonial agenda, but a symbol of central support for East Kalimantan's grand vision in facing a number of prestigious sporting events, including the Martial Arts PON, Beach PON, and Sukan Borneo (Borneo Games).

The inauguration ceremony, to be held at the East Kalimantan Governor's Office, is planned to be attended directly by Governor Rudi Mas’ud and Vice Governor Seno Aji. The presence of these regional leaders is seen as a manifestation of a strong synergy between the provincial government and the sports governing body for the advancement of the athletes of Benua Etam (East Kalimantan).

Carrying the theme "A New Chapter in East Kalimantan Sports Development," the new management is committed to carrying out a comprehensive restructuring of the athlete development system. The main focus is no longer just rhetoric, but concrete implementation in more professional organizational management to face the challenges leading up to the XXII PON in 2028 in NTT and NTB.

As a strategic step, KONI East Kalimantan has compiled a flagship work program titled "Efficiency for Champion". This program is designed to integrate efficient management with consistent achievement targets, from the grassroots level to the national stage. The inauguration committee is also preparing a special showcase of the region's flagship sports to enliven the event while demonstrating the readiness of East Kalimantan's athletes.
