The government continues to strengthen child protection in the digital world through policies restricting the use of gadgets in the school environment. This step is a synergy between the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to reduce the negative impacts of technology on the younger generation.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, stated that this policy is in line with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic System Operations for Child Protection (PP Tunas). According to her, this restriction is an important instrument to minimize exposure to negative content as well as cyber threats that increasingly target children.
This policy is reinforced by the issuance of Circular Letter of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Number 18 of 2026 concerning the Restriction of Gadget Use in Education Units. The regulation is designed so that students can use digital technology more wisely, safely, and responsibly.
The implementation of this regulation is also expected to address various serious issues resulting from excessive gadget use in children. Some anticipated risks include gadget addiction, online-based violence, cyber security threats, and disturbances to the physical and mental health of students.
