General Chairman of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Central Board, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Marciano Norman, officially inaugurated Anderiy Syachrum as the General Chairman of East Kalimantan KONI for the 2026-2030 tenure. The inauguration ceremony, held at Pendopo Odah Etam on July 12, 2026, marks a new chapter in efforts to maintain the sporting achievements of Bumi Etam on the national stage.

In his address, Marciano emphasized that the new board members must view their positions as an immense responsibility to restore East Kalimantan's glory days in sports. He openly supported the ambitious target set by East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas’ud, who aims for a top-three finish at the XXII National Sports Week (PON) in 2028, to be held in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara.

Governor Rudy Mas’ud affirmed the provincial government's commitment to providing full support for the sports sector. According to him, sporting success relies not only on physical strength but also on the synergy between accountable organizational governance and the intellectual development of athletes through collaboration with the education sector. Specifically, he challenged the board to bring the sport of football back to national glory.

Responding to the challenge, Anderiy Syachrum stressed his commitment to prioritizing the interests of athletes and coaches to improve the regional sports ecosystem. The initial focus of his administration will be directed toward strengthening organizational governance and comprehensive consolidation, ranging from regency/city KONI boards to provincial branch management.

East Kalimantan itself has a solid track record, consistently placing in the national top ten across the last four PON editions. Now, the new board must immediately prepare for a busy schedule, including the Martial Arts PON and Beach PON in 2026, which form part of the phased preparations toward the ultimate goal at the 2028 PON.
