The Chairman of the NasDem Party's Central Leadership Board (DPP), Willy Aditya, has firmly clarified public speculation regarding the direction of political party cooperation, which of late has been heavily linked to merger rumors with the Gerindra Party. He emphasized that the idea proposed by the General Chairman of the NasDem Party, Surya Paloh, is the formation of a political bloc, not a fusion or merger of party entities.
Willy explained that the political bloc concept is a form of strategic political engineering designed to create long-term solidarity, both at the elite structural level and among the grassroots. This step is taken as an antithesis to the transactional political culture that often dominates inter-party relations in the modern era.
According to Willy, many parties have misinterpreted Surya Paloh's reflective thoughts by equating them with the concept of a regular coalition. He emphasized that in Indonesia's presidential system, the coalitions commonly known so far are often temporary and focus solely on candidacy interests, rather than fundamental government stability.
Furthermore, Willy referred to the historical roots of national politics, such as the formation of Golkar in the past or the National Front during the Bung Karno era. For him, a political bloc is an effort to transcend the limitations of conventional coalitions by building a more established force with a deep, shared vision.
Responding to the closeness between Surya Paloh and President Prabowo Subianto, Willy described their relationship as a long-standing friendship that possesses an equal space for dialectics. He viewed the meetings between the two figures as part of natural political dynamics that do not necessarily lead to a political party merger agreement.
