For hikers in the Central Java region, Mount Giyanti in Magelang Regency might be better known for the Malanggaten hiking trail leading to Merah Putih Peak. However, this mountain holds another equally enchanting side: Gilimantren Peak, located on the northern side of the mountain.
Unlike the popular route usually taken, access to Gilimantren Peak is via the Anjraha Basecamp, located in Plalar Village, Windusari District. This trail offers a more intimate and serene hiking experience, passing through local plantations before entering a lush and picturesque pine forest.
The characteristics of this trail are perfect for hikers seeking peace and quiet. The distance to the summit is around 2.09 kilometers, with a relatively short hike time of about 40 minutes. Throughout the journey, visitors are accompanied only by the sounds of nature, from the rustling wind through the trees to the soothing chirping of wild birds.
Although it is not the highest point of Mount Giyanti, Gilimantren Peak presents an extraordinary landscape. From this summit, hikers can enjoy the majesty of Mount Sumbing to the southwest. The area also offers a fairly large flat area, well suited for those who wish to pitch a tent and spend the night at the summit.
Interestingly, there are two spots at Gilimantren Peak that can be explored. If hikers continue along the trail following the signboards, they will find a lower spot facing east. From this location, a stunning sunrise panorama unfolds against the backdrop of iconic mountain ranges, including Mount Merapi, Merbabu, Andong, and Telomoyo.
