The management of hydrometeorological disaster impacts in Padang City faces severe challenges once again due to extreme weather triggering subsequent floods. In response to these conditions, the Mayor of Padang, Fadly Amran, directly inspected the field to review the cleanup of flood debris in the Gunung Sariak and Lapau Munggu areas on Tuesday (4/8/2026).
Accompanied by the Padang City Regional Secretary Raju Minropa, the Chief Executive of BPBD Hendri Zulviton, and the Head of the Environmental Agency Fadelan Fitra Masta, Fadly directly monitored residential areas and educational facilities affected by mud inundation and thick piles of garbage.
Fadly revealed that this subsequent disaster occurred while the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction process from November 2025 was not yet fully completed. Nonetheless, he emphasized that the local government is moving quickly by deploying the entire fleet from the Environmental Agency, BPBD, and firefighters to conduct emergency cleanup in the affected areas.
On the other hand, to minimize the risk of similar disasters in the future, the Padang City Government urged the Sumatra V River Basin Territory Office (BWS) and the West Sumatra Provincial Government to immediately execute the flood control infrastructure projects planned since the end of last year.
According to Fadly, intensive coordination continues with the Ministry of Public Works and the West Sumatra Provincial Government to realize vital physical developments such as check dams, sabo dams, and river flow normalization. Along with this, the Padang City PUPR Agency also continues to optimize the function of the drainage network at the city level.
