Efforts to maintain the eye health of educators are a focus of the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot). Through collaboration with the East Java Community Eye Hospital (RSMM) and the National Alms Agency (Baznas), the Surabaya City Government facilitated eye examinations and the distribution of free glasses to one hundred Integrated PAUD Post (PPT) teachers. This social activity was held at the Candra Kencana Women's Building on Friday (31/7/2026).
The Head of Surabaya City PAUD, Rini Indriyani, expressed her deep appreciation for Surabaya being chosen as the only region out of 38 regencies/cities in East Java to receive this program. According to her, this step marks the beginning of an excellent collaboration to increase awareness of the health of early childhood teachers who are at the forefront of children's character education.
Rini hopes this assistance can be optimally utilized by PPT teachers in carrying out their noble daily duties. She also encouraged educators to be more sensitive to their personal health conditions in order to minimize various potential illnesses from an early stage.
Director of RSMM East Java, Ayu Mas Kusumayanti, revealed that the screening process showed the majority of teachers experienced refractive errors in the form of farsightedness (presbyopia). She emphasized that this condition is natural with age, but requires assistance tools such as glasses, especially in today's digital era which demands high interaction with gadgets.
Echoing this, the Chairman of Baznas Surabaya City, Moch Hamzah, appreciated this cross-sector synergy. He emphasized that early childhood (PAUD) teachers have a crucial role in laying the moral and academic foundations for Surabaya's future generation, so their physical conditions, including eye health, must continue to be supported for the smooth running of the teaching and learning process.
