The Yapen Islands Regency Government highly appreciates the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) Yapen Islands Branch and its medical staff for their dedication in organizing a free medical treatment social service for the community in Serui. This step is seen as a concrete manifestation of social concern in bringing basic healthcare services closer to the public.
The Regent of Yapen Islands, Benyamin Arisoy, in a written speech read by Assistant III of the Regional Secretariat Aser Pongrate, stated that the presence of doctors and healthcare workers in the community greatly contributes to improving the region's health status. This activity does not only provide free treatment, but also serves as an educational medium on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and a healthy daily lifestyle.
The local government also reminded the public that early detection is key to preventing various serious diseases. Therefore, residents are urged to be more active in checking their health conditions periodically without waiting to fall ill first.
A strong health sector cannot be achieved by the local government alone. Strong collaboration and synergy are needed between the government, IDI, hospitals, health centers (puskesmas), and all elements of society to create a healthy, productive, and prosperous population in the Yapen Islands.
