A tragic incident befell a hiker named Hamzanwadi (38), a resident of Rempung Village, Pringgasela District, East Lombok. The victim was declared dead after suffering a critical condition due to hypothermia while hiking on Dandaun Savanna Hill, at the foot of Mount Rinjani, last weekend.

Coordinator of the Kayangan Search and Rescue (SAR) Post, M. Darwis, revealed that the report regarding the victim's condition was received by the Mataram SAR Office on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at approximately 22:37 WITA. Immediately after receiving the information, a rescue team from the Kayangan SAR Post was deployed to the location, equipped with adequate medical tools and mountain evacuation equipment.

The evacuation process carried out by the joint SAR team proved quite challenging. The team managed to reach the victim at the location early Sunday morning, at 00:50 WITA. The victim was immediately rushed to the Sembalun Community Health Center (Puskesmas) to receive intensive medical assistance. However, after a series of examinations by health personnel, the victim was pronounced dead.

After the death was confirmed, the victim's body was handed over to the family for further arrangements. With the completion of the evacuation process, the search and rescue operation was officially closed. Authorities expressed appreciation for the synergy between the SAR unit, police officers, the military (TNI), medical personnel, and the local community involved in the rescue effort.

Reflecting on this incident, the SAR authorities reiterated their reminder to the public and hiking enthusiasts to always make thorough physical and logistical preparations before starting a hike.
