JAYAPURA - The Mamberamo Raya Youth and Student Association (HPM) Cup I Mini-Goal Tournament has officially ended with great fanfare at the Mamberamo Raya Regency Student Dormitory, Jayapura City. The inaugural event, which lasted for more than two weeks since early July, crowned the Paitobasumbasu Family Association and the Warambori Family as the main champions in their respective categories.
The competition was attended by 27 teams representing 13 districts, student associations, and dormitories under the auspices of Mamberamo Raya Regency. In the men's category, the Paitobasumbasu Family Association Team successfully claimed the first podium, followed by Bakordis Iwaso Squad in second place and Dormitory FC in third place. Meanwhile, in the women's category, victory was achieved by the Warambori Family Team, followed by Putri Mamberamo Hulu as runner-up and Putri Distrik Mamberamo Tengah Timur in third place.
General Chairperson of HPM Mamberamo Raya, Jorgen Tawane, revealed that this tournament was initiated as a forum to strengthen the sense of brotherhood among students living away from home in Jayapura City. The decision to choose the mini-goal format was based on concern over the growing rarity of this traditional sport being contested, as it has been displaced by the trends of futsal and full-field soccer.
This sporting event was supported by the Mamberamo Raya Regency Government through budget assistance worth IDR 50 million. Through this momentum, youth organizations hope that the local government can continue to open up space for sports development for the younger generation in a sustainable manner, not only at the urban level but also reaching remote districts and villages.
