Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) held an Open Senate Session to commemorate 106 years of Higher Engineering Education in Indonesia (PTTI) on Friday (3/7/2026). Held at the West Hall, Ganesha Campus, this milestone served as a deep reflection on the long journey of engineering education that has shaped the nation's foundation through science, technology, and human values.
Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tatacipta Dirgantara, M.T., emphasized that the institution's history is not merely a heritage of the past, but a stepping stone to face future challenges. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and interdependence as core principles. According to him, the excellence of a higher education institution in the 21st century is no longer measured by isolated independence, but by its capacity to serve as a bridge connecting diverse intelligence for the common good.
During the scientific oration session, renewable energy expert Tri Mumpuni underscored the urgency of developing science oriented toward social justice and environmental preservation. She stressed that technological innovation must balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, particularly in responding to crucial issues such as energy transition, food security, and disaster mitigation.
As a form of appreciation for dedication to advancing science and education, ITB conferred the Ganesa Widya Jasa Adiutama award upon 11 prominent figures, as well as the Ganesa Wirya Jasa Adiutama award upon 9 other individuals. This award symbolizes recognition of their real contributions to institutional development and higher engineering education nationwide.
Concluding the series of events, Prof. Tatacipta reaffirmed that the university's greatest legacy lies in a culture of openness, humility, and collaborative spirit. ITB declared its readiness to continuously transform into an adaptive pioneer of innovation facing the dynamics of the times while safeguarding human values in every technological solution produced.
