Strengthening Early Cancer Detection, Sidrap Regency Government Brings in International Health Experts

The TP PKK of Sidrap Regency held an international seminar to raise public awareness of early cancer detection as part of efforts to reduce mortality rates caused by advanced stages.

The Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK) Team of Sidenreng Rappang Regency, in collaboration with the Sidrap Regency Government, organized an international health seminar titled "Latest Updates on Cancer Management" at the Saromase Hall on Sunday (5/7/2026). This event aimed to provide in-depth education on the importance of recognizing cancer symptoms early.

Regent of Sidrap, Syaharuddin Alrif, who officially opened the event, emphasized that delayed diagnosis is the main factor behind the high risk of cancer fatalities. According to him, a proper understanding of the differences between tumors and cancer, as well as their clinical symptoms, is crucial for the public to seek immediate medical assistance before the disease reaches advanced stages.

"One knowledgeable cadre can save dozens of families. We must disseminate this knowledge down to the household and smallest community levels," said Syaharuddin. He added that the Sidrap Regency Government has allocated budget through the Regional Budget (APBD) and Health Operational Assistance (BOK) for early detection programs that have targeted around 15,000 residents since last year, making Sidrap the region with the highest cancer prevention achievements in its area.

Chairperson of TP PKK Sidrap, Haslindah Syaharuddin, stated that this international collaboration with Damansara Specialist Hospital, Malaysia, is a strategic step to bring global health education standards to the region. She emphasized that all PKK cadres from the regency to village levels are ready to be at the forefront of advocating for healthy lifestyles and the importance of routine check-ups.

The seminar, attended by members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), healthcare workers, and TP PKK representatives from across Ajatappareng, is expected to trigger a massive movement. By combining the latest medical education with active cadre involvement on the ground, the Sidrap Regency Government is optimistic about building a more vigilant community and reducing cancer morbidity rates in the future.
