The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, held an intensive bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (7/7/2026). This high-level meeting marks a new chapter of strategic collaboration between the two countries, with a primary focus on strengthening the national energy security sector.
In his official statement, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of synergy between Indonesia and India in facing global challenges. One of the crucial points discussed was the agreement to exchange technology and build capacity in the nuclear energy sector. Additionally, both state leaders committed to developing solar power plant projects as part of the sustainable energy transition.
In addition to the energy sector, the dialogue also covered strengthening the economic, political, and security pillars. Both countries agreed to increase the intensity of high-level visits and optimize bilateral consultation mechanisms through various institutions, including the recently formed parliamentary friendship group.
In the realm of regional security and stability, Indonesia and India declared a serious commitment to combating terrorism and transnational crime. Defense cooperation will also be strengthened through the third edition of the 'Indonesia India Security Dialogue' mechanism, which includes the development of digital infrastructure and the mastery of cutting-edge technology to maintain the stability and sovereignty of both countries.
