Jakarta is preparing to welcome a prestigious national-level badminton tournament, the 2026 Kapolri Cup Badminton Championship. This competition, a collaboration between the Indonesian National Police (Polri) and the Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI), is scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 1, 2026. The Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ) Sports Hall (GOR) and GOR Pondok Bambu have been selected as the arenas for hundreds of the nation's best talents.
A total of 591 athletes from 91 clubs across Indonesia are confirmed to participate. They will compete fiercely in the youth development age groups, including the Beginner (U-15), Youth (U-17), and Junior (U-19) categories. To ensure the quality of the competition, participating players are those ranked in the national top 32 across five sectors: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles.
In addition to focusing on youth development, this year's event also brings a strong dimension of inclusivity through special categories for Police personnel and disabled groups. In the Police category, the Men's Team event will be contested with certain age combination rules. Meanwhile, the disabled group will play six competitive categories to provide an equal space for athletes with disabilities to showcase their best abilities.
Secretary General of PP PBSI and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Ricky Soebagdja, highly appreciated the Police's commitment. According to him, the Police's step to include the disabled category is a positive breakthrough in creating an inclusive sports ecosystem. He hopes this synergy can produce new champion seeds while improving physical fitness and sportsmanship within the police environment.
Supported by various major national sponsors such as BRI, Mayora, Yonex-Sunrise, and BTN, this championship is expected to be a highly competitive stage. The general public and badminton lovers are invited to fill the spectator stands to provide direct moral support to the competing athletes.
