The Pekalongan Class IIA Correctional Institution (Lapas) has officially commenced the Sports Week for Correctional Inmates (WBP). This event is organized to celebrate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on Tuesday (28/7/2026).
Unlike formal opening ceremonies in general, this opening event was packed in a simple yet warm manner, starting with a joint exercise session participated in by all prison officers and inmates. This collective physical activity is expected to strengthen togetherness and build a healthy lifestyle within the correctional facility.
After the joint exercise, the Head of Pekalongan Prison, Teguh Suroso, led the tumpeng (cone-shaped rice dish) cutting procession, accompanied by structural officials. The event then continued with the symbolic release of balloons into the air, marking the official start of all sports competitions.
In his speech, Warden Teguh Suroso urged the inmates to utilize this momentum to build relationships and foster sportsmanship. He emphasized the importance of maintaining conduciveness, order, and discipline throughout the competition.
In addition to advising on sportsmanship, Teguh also reminded the inmates to remain committed to making Pekalongan Prison free from the circulation of illegal gadgets and drugs. He stressed that he will not tolerate any form of rule violation inside the prison.
Several sports branches being contested include volleyball, futsal, and table tennis. Apart from being a means of recreation to welcome independence day, this competition is also an integral part of the inmates' personality development, with a strong commitment to maintaining the Zero HALINAR (Cell phones, Illegal Levies, and Narcotics) program.
