A basketball sports fiesta has officially kicked off in Pontianak City with the opening of the BBM x AIKA Basketball Tournament Season 2. The festive opening ceremony was held at the Ahmad Yani Integrated Sports Hall (GOR), M.T. Haryono Street, South Pontianak District, on Saturday (1/8/2026) evening.
This prestigious event was attended directly by the Pontianak Police Chief, Senior Commissioner (Kombes Pol.) Endang Tri Purwanto, Deputy Governor of West Kalimantan Krisantus Kurniawan, and the General Chairperson of Perbasi West Kalimantan, Prof. Dr. Garuda Wiko. Several regional officials, representatives of sports organizations, and local community leaders were also present to provide full support for the development of basketball in the West Kalimantan region.
This tournament is designed not just as an ordinary competition, but as a strategic platform to scout and nurture outstanding young local athletes. Through competitive matches, it is hoped that new young talents will emerge who can eventually make West Kalimantan proud on national and international stages.
Senior Commissioner Endang Tri Purwanto expressed his deep appreciation to the entire organizing committee for successfully hosting the tournament. He emphasized the importance of upholding sportsmanship, togetherness, and adherence to fair play principles throughout the matches to maintain a conducive public security and order (kamtibmas) climate in Pontianak City.
Through this cross-sector collaboration, the police hope that positive sporting activities will continue to be promoted. Strong synergy between the local government, police, and sports community is considered effective in shaping the character of a healthy, outstanding younger generation, while protecting them from various negative social influences.
