A dramatic rescue operation took place on the hiking trail of Mount Gede Pangrango after a hiker from Bekasi was reported unable to continue the journey due to numbness in his legs. The victim, who weighs approximately 145 kilograms, was reported stranded near Post 3 Buntut Lutung on Sunday (28/6/2026).
Field volunteer Ali (37) revealed that the victim's heavy physical weight posed a unique challenge for the rescue team amidst the notoriously steep terrain of the Gunung Putri trail. The evacuation strategy had to be carried out in stages, starting from carrying the victim using a sarong to switching to a makeshift wooden stretcher to ensure stability during transport.
The physically demanding evacuation process lasted for six full hours. The rescue team had to take turns navigating down the steep hiking path so the victim could receive further medical attention as soon as possible. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers, the hiker finally reached a safe point at 21:00 WIB.
On the other hand, Public Relations officer for the Mount Gede Pangrango National Park Authority, Agus Deni, stated that his team is currently conducting a deeper investigation into the incident. The national park authorities are verifying reports regarding the hiker's identity and ensuring the legality of the climbing procedure undertaken by the victim prior to the incident.
