The government's grand plan to modernize the toll road payment system through the Multi Lane Free Flow (MLFF) method, or non-stop and touchless toll payment system, is back in the spotlight. Although initiated five years ago, the field implementation of this technology has not yet shown significant progress.

Delays in adopting this modern technology highlight a significant gap between the ambition to adopt global standards and the reality of the domestic toll road infrastructure and ecosystem. The challenges faced are far from simple, considering that this system requires precise integration so as not to disrupt existing toll road operations.

In addition to digital ecosystem readiness, another crucial issue remaining an obstacle is revenue assurance for toll road operators (BUJT). Concerns regarding cash flow certainty and the risk of transaction leakage are critical points that must be resolved so that the transition of this payment system does not impose a financial burden on toll road operators in the future.
