Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan has issued strict instructions to all healthcare facilities in his region to prioritize saving lives over administrative procedures. This emphasis was delivered following the inauguration of 105 officials within the Bandung City Government on Tuesday (7/7/2026), where public service aspects were the main focus of healthcare sector bureaucratic reform.
Farhan emphasized that medical personnel are required to provide first aid until the patient's condition is declared stable, without exception. He highlighted that asking about payment status or administrative completeness in the midst of an emergency is an unjustifiable form of discrimination that violates humanitarian principles.
As a form of concrete commitment, the Bandung City Government is preparing sanctions for healthcare facilities proven to be negligent. For government-owned institutions such as Puskesmas (community health centers) or RSUD (regional public hospitals), perpetrators proven to reject patients face severe sanctions up to dismissal. Meanwhile, for private hospitals, the local government expressed readiness to conduct deep evaluations up to reviewing the operational permits of hospitals that do not comply with the service protocols.
High hopes are placed on the newly inaugurated functional officials to prioritize professionalism and empathy in performing their duties. This step is part of the Bandung City Government's strategy to improve the quality of health services and rebuild public trust in the effectiveness of public services in Bandung City.
