The search operation for two teenage hikers reported missing on Mount Bismo, Wonosobo Regency, ended in deep sorrow. Arifin Nurohmat (18) and Yufaidin (15) were found deceased in a 284-meter-deep ravine on Sunday (12/7/2026).
The two victims had been missing since Tuesday (30/6/2026) after abruptly leaving their homes. Their families only realized the emergency situation when the teenagers failed to return late into the night. Information from Watumalang Sub-district Head, Arief Hardiyanto, noted that local residents had spotted the pair walking toward the mountain slopes via the Krinjing Village route.
The conditions during their hike were deeply concerning as neither was equipped with standard hiking gear. Wearing only thin clothing and carrying minimal food supplies, they were far from following proper mountain safety procedures. This lack of preparation is believed to be the main factor causing them to become trapped in the rugged terrain of the forest area.
In response to the teenagers' disappearance, a joint SAR team consisting of Basarnas, BPBD, the military (TNI), police (Polri), and volunteer nature enthusiasts conducted an intensive 12-day search. The arduous effort across steep terrain finally led to a discovery in the valley area near Curug Tiga, where both bodies were successfully evacuated from the depths of the ravine.
