The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is currently boosting the development of the sport tourism concept as a strategic step to diversify the capital's attractions. This step is being taken to transform Jakarta's image, long associated primarily as a business hub, into a sports tourism destination to be reckoned with on the global stage.
Head of the Jakarta Youth and Sports Department (Dispora), Andri Yansyah, explained that this program is designed to align the sports sector with tourism, creative industries, and urban service development. This synergy is expected not only to produce high-performing athletes but also to create a multiplier effect for the local economy.
Hosting various sporting events in Jakarta is projected to boost the hospitality, transportation, culinary sectors, as well as MSME empowerment. This effort is supported by Jakarta's existing international-standard sports infrastructure and an increasingly well-integrated public transportation system.
Furthermore, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to schedule various sporting events throughout the year. The series of events includes international spectacles, national championships, marathons, traditional sports festivals, and student competitions to ensure economic and tourism dynamics continue to revolve consistently.
