Mount Merapi showed significant volcanic activity again on Monday (13/7/2026). The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) recorded a pyroclastic flow that traveled up to 2,000 meters from the peak of the mountain at precisely 05:09 WIB.
Head of BPPTKG, Agus Budi Santoso, explained that the pyroclastic flow had a maximum amplitude of 19.52 mm with a duration of 109.99 seconds. Volcanic material was detected heading toward two main sectors: southwest toward the upper reaches of the Krasak River and south toward the upper reaches of the Boyong River.
To date, the activity status of Mount Merapi remains at Level III (Alert). BPPTKG strictly advises the public not to conduct any activities within the designated danger zone. Residents are requested to remain vigilant regarding river flows originating from Mount Merapi, given the potential hazard of lava avalanches and pyroclastic flows still threatening the area.
In addition to the threat of pyroclastic flows, communities on the slopes of Merapi are also reminded to be aware of the potential for lahar floods when rain occurs around the peak. BPPTKG continues intensive 24-hour monitoring and asks the public to always follow official information from relevant agencies to avoid misinformation.
