MUARO JAMBI – To channel interests and hone non-academic talents of students, Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) 1 Muaro Jambi is intensifying sports extracurricular activities on a regular basis. Located at the madrasah field in Sungai Gelam District, the routine training held every Thursday after school hours is designed to build prime physical fitness while instilling discipline and sportsmanship from an early age.
The training process is guided directly by two Physical Education teachers, Jimi Andrianto, S.Pd. and Nur Rohman Gesang Subagio, S.Pd. The session begins with structured warm-ups to minimize the risk of student physical injury. Once the body is ready, students from various grade levels are divided into small groups to receive core training matching the focus of that day's material.
In the main session, students are equipped with basic sports techniques covering movement coordination, agility, and increasing physical endurance. The guiding teachers apply a personalized approach by providing greater challenges for students who are already proficient, as well as offering special guidance for those who still need technical adjustments. This method ensures each student can develop according to their respective rhythm and potential.
Jimi Andrianto emphasized that the essence of this extracurricular goes beyond just physical aspects and game tactics. This sporting activity serves as an effective means to internalize values of cooperation, responsibility, and moral integrity. Character building is consistently woven into the training sessions so that students are not only tough on the field but also ethical in social environments.
Echoing this, Nur Rohman Gesang Subagio added that regular physical activity contributes positively to reducing students' academic fatigue after a whole day of studying in class. Maintaining physical fitness is considered directly proportional to increasing students' concentration and learning motivation. Through disciplined training, the madrasah hopes to identify and prepare promising young athletes to compete at district, provincial, and national levels.
