Global food and beverage industry giant, Danone, has officially announced strategic steps to strengthen its business position in Indonesia. As the fifth largest market for the company globally, Indonesia is seen as a region with growth dynamics that are crucial for the company's long-term sustainability.

To respond to modern industrial challenges, Danone is undergoing a major transformation across its production lines by adopting artificial intelligence (AI). The shift in focus moves from conventional mechanical labor to the development of digital engineers, allowing plant operators to conduct cutting-edge data-driven machine monitoring. This innovation is recognized as having a significant impact on planning and logistics, particularly in mapping global supply chains and projecting raw material costs.

Beyond manufacturing, the company is also expanding into public health using digital technology. Danone is preparing an innovation for iron screening in mothers and infants via smartphone iris detection. This step is expected to serve as an early detection solution to reduce the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia, paired with the provision of science-based nutrition.

On the green operations side, Danone remains committed to applying the principle of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Although investing in eco-friendly packaging and recycled plastic (rPET) incurs high costs, the company emphasizes that it is a key element of sustainability. Currently, around 70 percent of Danone's mineral water business has transitioned to reusable gallon systems in a tangible effort to reduce its carbon footprint and plastic waste in the country.
