The East Lampung Regency Government has officially taken a strategic step in transforming the agricultural sector through the implementation of digital-based technology. This effort was marked by a direct inspection by the Regent of East Lampung, Ela Siti Nuryamah, of a chili crop cultivation trial using a Smart Farming system in Marga Toto Village, Metro Kibang District, on Thursday (9/7/2026).
The trial, utilizing one hectare of land, is designed to integrate cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing. Through the use of automated sensors, farmers can now monitor soil conditions and crop nutrient needs in real-time, which is expected to lower operational costs while increasing work efficiency in the field.
Regent Ela Siti Nuryamah emphasized that this modernization is not merely a technical innovation, but a crucial step to address challenges in the agricultural sector in the modern era. With an accurate data-driven approach, the farmers' decision-making process becomes more measured, ensuring harvested crops are of superior quality and capable of competing in wider markets.
Furthermore, the local government is committed to expanding the reach of this technology to various regions across East Lampung. Synergy between the government, agricultural extension workers, and farming groups is key to ensuring the local agricultural sector can continue adapting to climate change, become increasingly self-reliant, and sustainably strengthen regional food security.
