Menak Sopal Stadium witnessed the start of the student soccer competition titled Trenggalek Student League (TSL) 2026 on Monday (7/27/2026). Behind the festive opening and the excitement of this inter-student competition, the TSL is a crucial momentum to test the commitment of the Trenggalek Regency Government in building a sustainable sports ecosystem, rather than just an annual ceremonial event.
Over the years, the development of young athletes in the region has often faced classic challenges. Local sports observers highlighted the lack of training facilities in schools and the suboptimal follow-up development programs post-tournament. Consequently, many potential young talents see their progress halt after the competition ends due to the absence of a clear channel for talent development.
Responding to this, the Acting Regional Secretary of Trenggalek Regency, Stefanus Triadi Atmono, expressed the government's full support for the sustainability of the TSL. He hopes that the synergy between the Education Agency, KONI (National Sports Committee), and the football association can foster a healthy sports climate and ensure this tournament is consistently held every year.
Triadi emphasized that producing high-achieving athletes requires a long, structured process, not an instant one. It is important for policymakers to build bridges that integrate school competitions with local football clubs like Persiga Trenggalek, so that student talents can be continuously monitored and developed professionally.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the TSL 2026 Committee, Irnanda Setyoko, explained that this year's tournament is participated in by 16 teams, divided into nine junior high school (SMP/MTs) level teams and seven senior high school (SMA/equivalent) level teams. The low participation from the high school level is an important note as well as an evaluation point for the committee regarding the effectiveness of dissemination to schools.
The competition, which vies for the Trenggalek Regent's Rotating Trophy and total prizes of tens of millions of rupiah, is scheduled to run competitively until August 3, 2026. The committee is committed to maintaining the quality of the tournament to ensure it runs objectively and with sportsmanship, in order to nurture a quality future generation of football players from Trenggalek.
