A resident of Penanjan Hamlet, Paciran Village, Lamongan Regency, who had been reported missing since mid-July, was finally found lifeless. The body of the man, identified by his initials MDR (30), was evacuated from the bottom of a 12-meter-deep ravine in the Mount Kendil area on Thursday morning (23/7/2026).
The discovery began with the suspicion of a grass cutter who smelled a strong unpleasant odor coming from the cliff the previous day. The witness then reported the suspicious smell to the victim's family, who immediately suspected it was related to MDR's disappearance since Wednesday (15/7/2026).
Responding to the report, the Paciran Sector Police, led by Police Chief Iptu Abdul Ghufron, along with a team of volunteers, immediately searched the Mount Kendil ravine area. Officers eventually succeeded in finding the victim's body, whose identity was then confirmed by family members accompanying the search process.
Head of the Public Relations Section of the Lamongan Police, Ipda M. Hamzaid, confirmed that the victim's body was immediately evacuated to the Paciran Health Center (Puskesmas) for an external post-mortem examination. The medical examination results showed no signs of physical violence on the victim's body, leading to the strong suspicion that the death was caused by a fall into the dozen-meter-deep ravine.
The family explained that MDR had a history of depressive disorder and had previously attempted to end his life. Refusing a further autopsy, the family accepted the incident as a tragedy. The Lamongan Police also urged residents to immediately report any missing family members to expedite search efforts.
