The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (BB TNBTS) has officially announced the temporary closure of the Mount Semeru hiking trail. This policy will be in effect from August 7 to August 18, 2026, to allow the Tengger community in Ranupane Village, Senduro District, Lumajang, to observe the traditional Karo Day celebrations.
Head of BB TNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, explained that this decision was made after receiving a request from the Ranupane Village Government. The step was taken out of respect for the sacred series of traditional rituals and to ensure smooth community activities without disruption from hiking activities.
According to operational guidelines, all hikers are required to descend from the trail no later than Friday, August 7, 2026, at 16:00 WIB. The hiking trail will reopen normally on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Although hiking is closed, management emphasized that the Ranu Regulo tourist area remains operational and open for camping activities for tourists.
For prospective hikers affected by this closure, particularly those with schedules coinciding with this period, BB TNBTS provides a rescheduling facility or *reschedule*. Acting Head of Ranupane Village, Bambang Sugianto, emphasized that this closure is crucial for maintaining the sanctity of Hari Raya Karo. In addition to maintaining order, this collaborative measure between the village authorities and BB TNBTS aims to guarantee safety and comfort for all residents and ceremonial groups during the rituals.
