The Mount Gede Pangrango National Park Authority (BBTNGGP) has officially and temporarily closed all hiking activities and tourist visits for the general public. This restriction policy is enforced for one week, starting from Thursday, July 23 to Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
This temporary closure step was taken in connection with the holding of a regional-scale sports event, namely the Jakarta Open Trail Run, which is part of the South East Asia Trail Running Confederation (SEATRC) series of activities. The hiking trails within the national park area will be fully focused on supporting the smooth running and safety of the trail running participants.
This closure policy is outlined in Circular Letter Number 11 of 2026 concerning Restrictions on Hiking Activities in Mount Gede Pangrango National Park. The management emphasized that the term "closure" refers to the restriction of tourist and hiking activities on official routes, so that economic activities or daily mobility of the public outside the conservation area continue as usual.
This conservation area, which spans across the Cianjur, Sukabumi, and Bogor regencies, is usually accessed by the public through the Cibodas, Gunung Putri, and Selabintana entrances. The BBTNGGP urges prospective hikers and tourists who have scheduled trips for late July to adjust their schedules immediately so as not to be turned away at the entrances.
For those who wish to hike after the restriction period ends, it is recommended to monitor quota availability and re-register through the official BBTNGGP online booking portal. The management also reminds prospective visitors not to come to the entrance locations without holding an official permit in order to maintain order in the national park area.
